A Wandering Community Festival for Decades
The Starzach-Fest has been an identity-forming major event for the entire Starzach municipality in the southern Tübingen district for decades. Instead of a fixed venue, the festival rotates between the five sub-districts every few years – Bierlingen, Border, Felldorf, Sulzau, and Wachendorf – thus strengthening the togetherness of the villages.
The 2026 Festival in Sulzau
In 2026, the sub-district of Sulzau will be the host. Sulzau is picturesquely located on the Neckar between Horb and Tübingen. After discussions in the municipal council about budget and safety, a decision was made in spring 2026:
- Budget of around 22,000 Euros (leaner than in previous years).
- No fireworks – for cost and ecological reasons.
- Relocation to the village center as a street festival, away from the flood-prone areas directly on the Neckar.
- Three days of festivities from Friday evening to Sunday evening (July 24–26, 2026).
What to Expect
As with previous editions, the music associations, fire departments, sports clubs, and church communities from all five sub-districts will provide the program:
- Festival tent with stage and catering by the clubs
- Live music with regional bands and music associations
- Morning pint (Frühschoppen) on Sunday morning
- Children's and family program
- Specialties from the Starzach club kitchens
Why This Festival is Special
The Starzach-Fest is a prime example of how a small, unified municipality with five sub-districts preserves its identity: instead of competition between the villages, the venue changes, all clubs pitch in, and each festival becomes a piece of shared history. Anyone who comes to Sulzau experiences rural conviviality in the Schönbuch foothills, away from the big festivals.
Starzach-Fest — edition 2026
The Starzach-Fest 2026 has been confirmed as a street festival in the village center of Sulzau by municipal council resolution – from Friday, July 24, to Sunday, July 26, 2026. The budget has been reduced to around 22,000 Euros, fireworks have been canceled, and the festival area is located outside the flood-prone zone near the Neckar for safety reasons.
The clubs from the five Starzach sub-districts are organizing the program: music associations, fire departments, sports clubs, and church communities will organize the festival tent, catering, stage, live music, Frühschoppen, and the children's program. The detailed program overview (bands, performance times, family activities) will be published by the Starzach municipality in the event calendar and local press well in advance of the festival weekend.

Getting There
Sulzau is part of the Starzach municipality (Tübingen district) and is located on the Neckar between Horb and Rottenburg. Accessible from the A81 motorway, exit Horb, via the B14. By train to Eyach (Tübingen–Horb line), then bus or taxi.
Admission
Admission to the street festival is free. Food, drinks, and individual events are subject to a charge.
Tip
Come to the festival tent on Sunday morning for the Frühschoppen – the best time to experience the club life of the five sub-districts.
