24th Edition of the Kandern Town Festival
The Städtlitag in Kandern has been the annual highlight of the Werbering Kandern e.V. for 24 years and one of the most important dates in the Markgräflerland calendar. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the town center of Kandern will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the open Sunday with a supporting program. Exhibitors and retailers from Kandern and the surrounding area will present themselves along the main street and on the Blumenplatz – a living showcase stage for Kandern's economy.
Stilt Walkers and Brass Band as Eye-Catchers
Special attractions include the stilt walkers from Zeus Stelzentheater, who will walk through the town all day at a height of four meters – a humorous, child-friendly highlight that visually shapes the Städtlitag. Musically, the Stadtmusik Kandern will open a Frühschoppen concert on the Blumenplatz at 11:30 a.m., followed by performances by the Castle Groove Festival Brass Band – a regional brass formation that marches through the town center with a marching rhythm.
Children's Program and Book Flea Market
For families, there will be the dance piece "Elephant Walk" for children at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the notary's office. In addition, there will be face painting, children's entertainment from the Werkssiedlung Kandern, and the traditional book flea market from the city library. Catering will be provided by the Gasthaus Weserei on the Blumenplatz and a beer, wine, and sparkling wine fountain from the Werbering – typical Baden summer festival culture.
Kandern in the Markgräflerland
Kandern, with around 8,200 inhabitants, is a small town in the Lörrach district, in the Markgräflerland south of Müllheim and northwest of Lörrach on the edge of the southern Black Forest. The historic town with its characteristic Markgräfler architecture, the nearby Sausenburg castle ruins, and its location between the Rhine plain and the Black Forest makes it an attractive excursion destination in the southwesternmost tip of Baden-Württemberg. The Städtlitag is an important annual event for the local economy and the Markgräflerland identity.

Open Sunday with a Full Program
On June 14, 2026, the town center of Kandern opens for the 24th Städtlitag. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the town transforms into a lively showcase stage with an open Sunday, live music, stilt artistry, and children's theater. The organizer is Werbering Kandern e.V., who organizes the town festival together with Kandern's shops, clubs, and artists.
The program focuses on a mix of regional tradition (Stadtmusik Kandern, brass music) and surprising formats (stilt walkers at 4 m height, international brass band, children's dance). The city library's book flea market and face painting are fixed program points for families.

Getting There
Kandern is located between Lörrach and Müllheim in the Markgräflerland. By car via the A 98 (exit Steinen, then L 134) or the B 3 from Müllheim. By train, the nearest station is Kandern (Kandertalbahn) or Müllheim/Lörrach with a bus connection. Parking is available on the outskirts of the town center.
