Ascension Day festival at the historic Alte Ziegelei Twistringen with live music and Hot Oven
The Alte Ziegelei Twistringen is a historic industrial monument from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is one of the few surviving ring kiln brickworks in Lower Saxony and was saved from decay in 1995 by a volunteer association. Today, "Freunde der Alten Ziegelei e.V." operates the site as a museum and event location, recognised with awards for volunteer commitment in the field of industrial culture, among others.
The Ascension Day festival is one of the association's most frequented events. The gates open at 12 PM. The "Hot Oven," a historically modelled kiln, is fired up and produces pizzas and Flammkuchen, served directly on site. In addition, there are sausages, regional specialities, beer, and drinks. Guided tours of the old kilns and machine halls are offered depending on visitor numbers.
In the afternoon, an invited band performs an open-air concert. In past years, North German cover bands like Oakville, characterised by pop, rock, and country sounds, have frequently graced the stage. The concert is included in the admission price and is aimed at a mixed audience of association members, families, and day-trippers from the southern Bremen area.
The Alte Ziegelei is located on the outskirts of Twistringen at Grabhorststraße 32. The venue is exceptional with its mix of red brick, old machinery, workshops, and well-kept green spaces. Twistringen itself is reachable from Bremen in about 30 minutes.
The festival is considered a popular Ascension Day alternative to classic Father's Day outings in the Twistringen area. Families, groups, and associations gather on the spacious grounds, which offer a unique atmosphere with its red brick architecture.
Admission to the grounds is kept low, and food and drinks are sold on-site at association-standard prices. The proceeds from the festival support the preservation and maintenance of the industrial monument.
The 2026 program is confirmed on the association's event page:
The festival runs until the evening. Any changes to the detailed program will be announced on the association's website.
