Castle Town Celebrates

Lüdinghausen is known as the "Castle Town" – hardly any other town in the Münsterland region has so many historic moated castles per square kilometre. Vischering Castle, Lüdinghausen Castle, and Wolfsberg Castle are all located within the town limits. The Lüdinghausen City Festival uses this special backdrop for three days of events in the town centre around the market square.

Friday — City Run Day

Traditionally, the City Run marks the start. Children's races begin at 2:30 PM, followed by the main 10 km run through the town centre at 6:00 PM. Afterwards, live bands take over the stages at the market and town hall squares, filling the Friday evening with DJ sets and concerts.

Saturday — Family Day

Saturday is Family Day. From 10 AM, the town centre transforms into a large children's flea market: children sell their books, toys, and clothes. From 11 AM, the Old Town Market opens, featuring crafts, artisanal goods, and regional products. A special area hosts a "Blue Light Day" with demonstrations by the fire brigade, police, and rescue services. An auction in the afternoon rounds off the day. In the evening, DJ sets and live music will be featured on two stages again.

Sunday — Sunday Shopping and Art in the Park

Sunday, September 20, 2026, is a Sunday shopping day in Lüdinghausen. Shops are open from 1 PM to 6 PM. Concurrently, the Old Town Market and Art in the Park run from 11 AM to 5 PM – an exhibition of local and regional artists in the park surrounding Lüdinghausen Castle. A festival café and several stages ensure a relaxed Sunday atmosphere.

Lüdinghausen — Münsterland's Hidden Gem

Lüdinghausen is located in the Coesfeld district in North Rhine-Westphalia, in the West Münsterland region. With around 25,000 inhabitants, the town is manageable but culturally active. The combination of medieval castle architecture, a vibrant club scene, and excellent gastronomy makes the city festival one of the most charming in the Münsterland.
