Spring Bazaar and France Market
The Lüdinghausen Spring has been the highlight of the Westphalian market calendar for years. The concept is clear: a classic spring bazaar on Sunday with numerous regional vendors — combined with a French gourmet market that runs from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. Lüdinghausen thus combines local market tradition with a clearly identifiable French accent — an idea that gives the city significantly more reach than an ordinary weekly market.
When: April 24 to 26, 2026
The 2026 Spring runs from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, 2026 — the 4th weekend in April, as is traditional. The French gourmet market is open all three days, while the large spring bazaar in the old town is concentrated on Sunday. On Sunday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday shopping takes place in the city center.
French Gourmet Market
The main attraction: around two dozen French stalls with specialties from several regions of France. You will find:
- Cheeses from French dairies — Reblochon, Camembert, Roquefort, Comté
- Wines from Bordeaux, Loire, Provence, Rhône — directly from the winemaker
- Delicacies — Saucissons, Foie gras, Tapenades, marinated olives
- Baked goods — Baguettes, Croissants, Macarons, regional cakes
- French Crêpes and Galettes from the crêpe stand
The exhibitors usually come directly from France or from French families living in Germany — brand identity is clear.
Spring Bazaar in the Old Town
On Sunday, numerous vendors set up their stalls in the city center — fashion, jewelry, spring decorations, plants, regional products from the Münsterland, arts and crafts. The bazaar complements the French market and ensures that traditional Lüdinghausen retailers also have their presence.
Sunday Shopping
On Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Lüdinghausen retailers open their stores for Sunday shopping. This combines a visit to the market with a stroll through the shops — an important sales event for Lüdinghausen's city center.
Lüdinghausen — Castle Town in the Münsterland
Lüdinghausen is located in the Coesfeld district in western Münsterland, about a 25-minute drive southwest of Münster. The town is known for its three moated castles: Burg Lüdinghausen, Burg Vischering, and the nearby Westerwinkel Castle. Those arriving for the spring market should plan a walk to Burg Vischering — one of Westphalia's best-preserved moated castles, now a museum and event venue.
Lüdinghausen Marketing — The Organizer
Lüdinghausen Marketing und Tourismus, the city's marketing organization, coordinates the Lüdinghausen Spring. Throughout the year, they organize other city festivals: the Rose Festival, the Potato Festival, and the Westphalian Winter Market. With this mix of seasonal festivals and castle tourism, Lüdinghausen has become one of the most prominent city marketing locations in the Münsterland.
Münsterland Meets France
What makes the Lüdinghausen Spring special is not a single stall — but the mix. You stroll through a Westphalian old town, hear French spoken between brick houses, buy cheese from the Jura and strawberry plants from a Münsterland farmer — and finally sit with a glass of Côtes-du-Rhône in a street café. This has been successful for years because it consciously does not seek competition with festivals like the Roncalli Market in Cologne: Lüdinghausen is compact, clear, and cozy.
