Annual winter illumination of Bad Kreuznach's city center on the last Saturday of November
“Kreuznach leuchtet” is one of the most enchanting late autumn events in the Nahe region's spa town. On the last Saturday of November, the city center of Bad Kreuznach transforms into a luminous open-air living room. Light installations, illuminated facades, fairy lights in the trees, and light projections create an atmospheric spectacle that makes the spa town shine in its best winter splendor – complemented by wine, music, and catering offerings in the streets.
The event is organized by the interest group WirsindKreuznach e.V., which promotes city marketing for the downtown retailers and restaurateurs. A few years ago, “Kreuznach leuchtet” was created as a format that marks the firm start of the pre-Christmas season and attracts thousands of visitors from the entire Nahe region.
The concept of “Kreuznach leuchtet” goes beyond classic Christmas decorations. Light artists install temporary light sculptures, facades are adorned with projected animations, illuminated tree-lined avenues, glowing path markers, and thematic light installations along a circular route invite visitors to stroll. The entire event resembles an urban light festival that makes Bad Kreuznach's historic architecture an experience anew.
In conjunction with the illumination, pop-up bars, mulled wine stands, food trucks, and local restaurateurs open their doors or set up outdoor stalls. Wine – as a trademark of the region – plays a central role: Nahe wineries are represented with their own stands, alongside variations of mulled wine, punch, hot drinks, and winter specialties. Live music, DJ sets, or acoustic concerts in various locations in the city center provide the musical backdrop.
The interest group WirsindKreuznach e.V. is an association of retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers in Bad Kreuznach's city center. They organize “Kreuznach leuchtet” as a joint marketing instrument and a highlight in the event calendar. Members also participate individually with special promotions, open shops, and unique offers.
Bad Kreuznach, with around 51,000 inhabitants, is the largest town in the Nahe valley and the center of the district of the same name. It is known for its brine spas, saltworks, historic bridge houses over the Nahe, and the picturesque old town around Kornmarkt and Pauluskirche. “Kreuznach leuchtet” showcases this urban backdrop in a special light once a year.
“Kreuznach leuchtet” 2026 will likely take place on Saturday, November 28 – by analogy with previous years (2024: Nov 30, 2025: Nov 29). The city center of Bad Kreuznach will be staged with light installations, illuminated facades, and a circular route concept, accompanied by wine, food, and music. Organizer: WirsindKreuznach e.V.
