Three Days of Town Festival at the Market Square

Wilkau-Haßlau is located directly south of Zwickau and, with just over 10,000 inhabitants, is one of the characteristic small towns in the West Saxon Mulde region. The municipality was granted town rights in 1935 — a comparatively young town anniversary, which the town celebrated in 2025 with a big 90th-anniversary party. The town festival annually picks up on this tradition on the last weekend of August. The organizer is the Wilkau-Haßlau town administration.

Program Friday to Sunday

Friday evening is dedicated to live music with local bands on the market stage, followed by a DJ night until the late hours. Saturday is family day — with a colorful stage program featuring performances by clubs, schools, and dance groups, as well as activities and market stalls around the market square. Sunday opens with a celebratory church service, followed by the Wilkau-Haßlau City Run (premiere in 2025), food stalls, and a concluding program in the afternoon.

Community Spirit and Club Culture

Like many small Saxon town festivals, the Stadtfest Wilkau-Haßlau thrives on its club culture: sports clubs, the shooting club, youth groups, the carnival club, and music clubs perform together, run stalls, and contribute to the festival. This closeness to the community is its greatest asset — not a tourist spectacle, but a genuine meeting festival.

Wilkau-Haßlau, the Zwickau District, and Western Saxony

The town is located in the Zwickau district, directly on the Mulde river and in close proximity to the city of Zwickau (with its historic Robert Schumann birthplace). The West Saxon Mulde region is ideal for a day trip: Osterstein Castle, the Horch Museum in Zwickau, or a hike along the Mulde riverbank.
