Münster's May Culinary Festival on Schlossplatz

The May edition of the Street Food Festival Münster has long been the kick-off to the festival season in Westphalia. From May 8th to 10th, 2026, over 30 food trucks will occupy the expansive Schlossplatz directly in front of Münster Castle. Three days, a culinary world tour — all with the clever Tapas concept that makes sampling easy.

The Tapas Concept

Small Portions, €6 Each

The special feature of the Street Food Festival is the Street Food Tapas offer: many trucks provide their specialties in small portions for €6, so you don't have to buy a full portion from one stand but can try offerings from five or six trucks. It's the ideal mix between festival enjoyment and culinary discovery.

Over 30 Trucks from Many Cuisines

The range of exhibitors includes:

• Taqueria Caramba — Mexican tacos and burritos
• Che Vegan — Argentinian vegan specialties
• Mrs. Chow Chow — Asian street food
• Maison Touareg — North African cuisine
• Crêpe am Stiel — French crêpe innovation
• + over 25 other trucks (German, Italian, Korean, Ethiopian, BBQ, vegetarian)

Many trucks offer vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-free options — the festival is explicitly geared towards allergy sufferers and vegan guests.

Three Days of Festival

Opening hours vary by day:

• Friday, May 8th, 2026: 4 PM–10 PM (After-work kick-off)
• Saturday, May 9th, 2026: 12 PM–10 PM (Main festival day)
• Sunday, May 10th, 2026: 12 PM–8 PM (Family wind-down)

Admission

€4 in advance | €4.90 at the gate. Admission is nominal — consumption costs extra. Children under 12 free, individuals with a severe disability pass (plus one accompanying person) free. Special offer: Free admission on Saturday until 4 PM. Family package (2 adults + 2 children aged 12-16): €13. Group tickets: 5 people €18, 10 people €36.

Schlossplatz as Festival Stage

The Schlossplatz in Münster is a historic city square in front of Schloss Münster (now part of the Westphalian Wilhelms University) and one of the city's largest open-air event venues. Its location within sight and earshot of the castle provides Münster's most beautiful festival backdrop. During the festival, the square is equipped with long beer bench rows, standing tables, garland lights, and a small stage for occasional DJ sets.

Westphalia and the Street Food Concept

Münster, as a university city (over 60,000 students), has a developed street food culture. The festival is one of two major annual street food events in Münster (alongside the autumn edition in September). The Münsterland region (independent city of Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia) is also a gastronomically strong district — Pumpernickel tradition, farm traditions, organic awareness.
