Stadtfest Sonthofen

A Festival for the Entire Alpine Town

The Stadtfest Sonthofen is the big annual city festival of the Alpine town in the Oberallgäu district. Sonthofen is the southernmost town in Germany and is located in the administrative region of Swabia in Bavaria. During the Stadtfest, the entire center – from Rathausplatz to Oberer Markt and Promenadestraße – transforms into a continuous festival mile. In good weather, the festival attracts up to 30,000 visitors.

Four Stages, Lots of Music

The stage program is spread across several stages in the city center. On the stage at Rathausplatz, village music, traditional costume groups from the region, and the town band alternate. On Promenadestraße, music bands and combos play, while Oberer Markt gets rockier with rock and alternative rock, followed by DJ sets. On Johann-Althaus-Platz, a dance disco night takes place in the evening. The festival traditionally opens with the beer tapping ceremony on the stage of the Sonthofen sports clubs.

Clubs, Gastronomy, and Kinderland

Around 40 clubs, restaurateurs, and organizations participate in the Stadtfest and offer a wide culinary selection. For the youngest guests, the working group of Sonthofen youth associations operates the Kinderland on Oberallgäuer Platz with play and activity offers. The stage program runs into the night, with drinks served late.

Tradition and Allgäu Lifestyle

The Stadtfest combines Allgäu traditions – costume groups, brass music – with a modern stage program and is one of the social highlights of the summer in Oberallgäu. It is a meeting point for locals and guests of the holiday region between the Iller and Grünten mountains.
