Traditional costume and forest festival of the D'Holzar Fischen costume and heritage association at the Waldfestplatz in Weidach
The Waldfest of the Trachten- und Heimatverein D'Holzar Fischen is one of the most beautiful traditional costume forest festivals in the Oberallgäu. In 2026, the association invites you on Sunday, July 26, from 10:00 AM to the Waldfestplatz in Weidach in Fischen i.Allgäu. In case of bad weather, the festival will be postponed to August 2, 2026.
The program follows the classic Allgäu festival structure:
The organizer is the Trachten- und Heimatverein D'Holzar Fischen e.V. – a traditional costume association that preserves the Alpine customs, dances, and music of the Allgäu mountain region. Holzar refers to the historical significance of woodcutters (Holzknechte) in the region. The association's name says it all: traditional costume, music, and regional pride are the focus.
The afternoon program starting at 1:30 PM is the highlight: Schuhplattler – the traditional Alpine men's dances characterized by loud slapping on shoes and leather trousers – perform, as do folk dance groups and alphorn players with their distinctive long Alpine horns. Young musicians – the association's rising talent – also get their chance to perform.
Fischen i.Allgäu is located in the Oberallgäu district in Swabia, nestled between the Allgäu Alps and the Iller Valley. This state-recognized climatic health resort with around 3,200 inhabitants is a classic destination for mountain vacationers. Traditional costume and heritage associations like D'Holzar shape the cultural profile of the region, passing down Alpine traditions from generation to generation.
Consciously kept family-friendly, with children's games, regional delicacies, and Alpine music, the Waldfest is more than just an association festival: it is a vibrant showcase of Allgäu mountain culture, bringing together numerous locals and vacationers every year.
