Open-air K-Pop fest with dance crews, Random Play Dance, and Korean street food at Malzfabrik Tempelhof
The K-Pop Community Berlin is one of the most vibrant in Western Europe. Hundreds of active fan clubs, dance crews, cosplay groups, and collector clubs meet regularly in the city — and the German-Korean diaspora has been an important pillar of Berlin's multiculturalism since the 1970s (Berlin was a major destination for Korean nurses in the post-war era). In the 2010s and 2020s, the global K-Pop boom — from BTS to NewJeans — has expanded the fan scene far beyond the Korean diaspora. Today, K-Pop fills the Mercedes-Benz Arena for tours by BLACKPINK or Stray Kids and generates year-round community activity from smaller events.
The venue for the K-Pop Summer Festival is the Malzfabrik on Bessemerstraße in Berlin-Tempelhof — a listed industrial complex from the late 19th century, which was redeveloped into an event and co-working space after decades of disuse. Today, the Malzfabrik hosts concerts, festivals, and outdoor events — and the courtyard offers an authentic industrial flair that fits well with the urban K-Pop setting.
Dreamlight Labs focuses on a deliberately limited capacity: no mass open-air event, but an intimate format where the community can meet. On the Live Stage, several cover dance crews perform the big hits — the crews are often from Berlin and Brandenburg, some travel from other German cities. During Random Play Dance, the DJ booth randomly starts a K-Pop hit, and anyone who knows the choreography jumps onto the dance floor spontaneously — one of the most charming traditions of the K-Pop scene. Trading cards are exchanged in the Idol Lounge, soju cocktails and mocktails are served at the Seoulshine Bar, and corn dogs and Korean summer snacks are available from the food truck.
The Tempelhof-Schöneberg district is one of Berlin's most diverse districts — from Tempelhofer Feld to the Turkish and Arab diaspora around Kreuzberg-Süd to the multicultural Schöneberger Hauptstraße. The K-Pop Summer Festival fits into a broad landscape of Berlin diaspora festivals: Maloca Brazil Food Festival, Asian Streetfood Festival, Karneval der Kulturen, Shtetl Berlin, AlFilm Arab Film Festival — all share the approach of making a diaspora community visible at an event.
On August 15, 2026, the Malzfabrik in Berlin-Tempelhof will once again transform into a small Korean microcosm for the fourth time. The official festival program runs from 12 PM to 4 PM — followed by an afterparty in the hall. On the Live Stage, several Berlin and German cover dance crews will perform hits by BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, TWICE, and NewJeans. During Random Play Dance, the DJ booth starts random K-Pop tracks — whoever knows the choreography jumps in. Fans trade trading cards in the Idol Lounge, the Seoulshine Bar serves soju cocktails, and the food truck offers Korean corn dogs and summer snacks.
