Saxony's largest festival parade and city festival with tradition
The Stadtfest with historic Peter & Paul Market Delitzsch dates back centuries: Since St. Peter and St. Paul's Day on June 29th, the people of Delitzsch in this North Saxon town have celebrated a city festival on the following weekend. This makes it one of the most traditional city festivals in Saxony. The 43rd modern edition will take place in 2026 – built upon this centuries-old root.
The modern festival concept is spread across five stages in the old town – «something for every musical taste», according to the festival website. Headliners in 2026 are:
In addition, local bands, cover acts, DJs, and regional artists will rock the stages.
The highlight on Saturday is the festival parade, which is billed as «Saxony's largest festival parade». Numerous clubs, floats, dance groups, and music bands march through the old town, honoring centuries of tradition.
While the main market thunders with pop, Schlager, and rock, a medieval atmosphere prevails in the historic market area: Craftsmen, jugglers, musicians in historical costumes, stalls with mead, roast beef, and wood crafts. The Delitzsch old town with its distinctive towers (Breiter Turm, Hallescher Turm, Delitzsch Castle) provides the perfect backdrop.
Delitzsch in the Nordsachsen district is one of Saxony's oldest towns with a completely preserved medieval city wall. The city festival is one of the few major Volksfeste (popular festivals) in the north of the state of Saxony. Visitors can combine their stay with a trip to Delitzsch Castle or the Leipzig New Lake District.
The 43rd edition continues the centuries-old tradition of the St. Peter and St. Paul festival in a modern format. Three days of festival atmosphere in the historic old town with five stages, amusement rides, culinary diversity, and a festival parade that ranks as the largest in Saxony.
