Town festival and 55th anniversary of the cross-border town partnership
Klingenthal is world-renowned as a city of musical instrument manufacturing — accordions, harmonicas, and mouth organs have been produced in Klingenthal since the 17th century and exported worldwide. The Czech partner city Kraslice (Graslitz), directly across the border, shares this tradition: together they form one of the most important centers for musical instrument construction in Central Europe. The two cities have been officially partnered since 1971 — a remarkable example of cross-border relations that have endured through the Cold War, the fall of the Wall, and the Czech Republic's accession to the EU.
Three days of programming are part of the Klingenthal town festival. A festival tent on the market square, concerts with regional and Czech bands, parties, a family afternoon, and a classic Vogtland funfair with carousels. As early as June 6, 2026 (one week before the main festival), a dedicated partnership festival is planned for 7:00 PM, honoring the 55-year bond between Klingenthal and Kraslice.
The festival tent with concerts, parties, and DJ sets forms the musical backbone. A family day with carousel rides and pony rides attracts the youngest visitors, while a flea market in the park invites browsing. The tapping of the first beer keg by Mayor Judith Sandner traditionally marks the official start of the festival weekend.
Klingenthal is located in the Vogtland district in the extreme southwest of Saxony, at the transition from the Vogtland to the western Ore Mountains and directly on the Czech border. In winter, Klingenthal is a stronghold for ski sports — the Vogtland Arena is one of Germany's most renowned ski jumping hills, regularly hosting World Cup competitions. Visitors to the town festival can combine their stay with a visit to the Musical Instrument Museum or an excursion to neighboring Kraslice.
Three days of town festival plus a partnership festival one week prior. Detailed program will be published shortly before the date on klingenthal.de.
