World meeting of the harmonica scene in the Saxon music city
Klingenthal is located in the extreme southwest of Saxony, directly on the border with the Czech Republic, in the Vogtland district. Harmonicas and accordions have been manufactured here for over 150 years — the company C.A. Seydel Söhne is considered the oldest harmonica manufacturer in the world. This tradition gave rise to the idea of bringing the international harmonica scene together in Klingenthal once a year. The festival has been held since 2000 and has since developed into the undisputed world center of the scene.
The program is spread over six days and more than ten venues in Klingenthal: from the Vogtland Conference Center to the Town Hall, the Bluesfactory in the Seydel Manufactory, and smaller cafes and community halls. Competitions are aimed at soloists, duos, and groups of all ages, workshops bring together experienced professionals and beginners, and evening concerts feature the scene's stars from blues, jazz, country, folk, and classical music. Factory tours at C.A. Seydel Söhne show how the instrument is made by hand.
The festival highlight is the «musically-culinary live night»: Shuttle buses take visitors back and forth between different venues, with a concert and a regional specialty buffet waiting at each location. The idea is clear: music, culinary delights, and a city walk merge into an experience that celebrates the Vogtland and its musical tradition.
The list of visitors' home countries shows the global reach: USA, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Russia, Argentina, France, Netherlands, Italy — over a thousand guests travel here annually. For the music city of Klingenthal, the festival is a calling card and secures the region a firm place on the international music map.
Over 1,000 players and fans from the USA, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and all of Europe are expected in Klingenthal in 2026. The program is spread across more than ten venues in the city: concert halls, the Bluesfactory in the Seydel manufactory, the Vogtland Conference Center, smaller cafes, and stages.
Highlights traditionally include the international solo, duo, and group competitions, workshops with scene stars, and the «musically-culinary live night», where shuttle buses ferry visitors between stages and buffets.
