Traditional civic and folk festival on Cancale-Platz with entertainment for young and old
In 2026, the Arnstein Civic and Heritage Festival celebrates its 59th edition, making it one of the region's most traditional festivals. It is organised by Stadtmarketing Arnstein on the central Cancale-Platz – named after Arnstein's French twin town, Cancale in Brittany.
The festival is consciously designed as an intergenerational civic festival: "Entertainment for Young and Old". Live music (in previous editions, bands like The Jets performed), amusement rides, food stalls, and a dedicated senior citizens' afternoon ensure that all age groups feel welcome.
A fixed component is the ecumenical service on Sunday, which provides the spiritual framework for the heritage festival. Thus, the festival combines secular folk festival spirit with religious customs – a typical characteristic of Franconian heritage festivals (Heimatfeste), which fall into the category of "Kirchweih & Feste" (church festivals & celebrations).
Arnstein is located in the Werntal valley in the Main-Spessart district, on the Werntal Cycle Path route. The town, with its historic old town and baroque St. Mary's Church, is a popular excursion destination between Würzburg and Schweinfurt. The Civic and Heritage Festival is the major social event in Arnstein's calendar and attracts visitors from the entire Werntal region.
