Summery district festival with local artists in southern Hamburg
Harburg has been part of Hamburg since 1937 but retains its own distinct character as the southern city. Around 170,000 people live in the Harburg district—more than in a medium-sized German city. The district has its own historical buildings (Harburg Castle, Schlossinsel, Wilhelmsburger Kanal), its own identity, and its own marketing concept. The Stadtfest is the central public self-representation of this district.
The venue is the Schlossmühlendamm—the historic main street of Harburg's old town, leading to Harburg Castle. Stages, stalls, and children's areas are spread along the entire street over two days. Saturday from 12 PM to midnight, Sunday from 12 PM to 10 PM. The children's area opens at 9 AM on both days.
The stage programming explicitly prioritizes local bands and acts from Harburg and the Hamburg metropolitan region. Cover bands, school bands from Harburg schools, local singer-songwriters, and occasional regional guests fill the program. This is a conscious decision by the organizers: Harburg presents its own music scene instead of bringing in expensive main stage headliners.
The children's area opens at 9 AM on both festival days—a concession to families from the district who want to start early. Bouncy castles, craft stations, face painting, and a carousel are the standard components. On the gastronomy side, the offerings are broad: classic festival food (bratwurst, fries, crêpes) meets vegetarian-vegan options and occasional surprising food truck concepts.
AHOI Events GmbH organizes the Stadtfest on behalf of Harburg Marketing e.V.—a constellation that sees the festival as a marketing measure for the district while also aiming for economic revitalization of the Harburg city center. Sponsors include Beck's and other local business partners.
The organizers have not yet finalized the date and program structure for 2026. As in previous years, the festival will run for two days on Schlossmühlendamm—Saturday 12:00 PM–12:00 AM, Sunday 12:00 PM–10:00 PM. The children's area opens at 9 AM on both days. Local bands from Harburg and the Hamburg metropolitan region will form the core of the musical programming.
