Equestrian sport on one of the most beautiful estates in the Duchy of Lauenburg
Basthorst is a district of the municipality of Kasseburg in the Duchy of Lauenburg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located about 40 kilometers east of Hamburg in the wooded terminal moraine landscape of eastern Lauenburg. Gut Basthorst is one of the region's historic estates — with a manor house, park, riding facilities, a courtyard café, and its own event spaces that host markets, concerts, and sporting events throughout the year.
The show jumping tournament is one of the estate's most important sporting events. Over three days, show jumping competitions are held in several classes — from junior and amateur classes to higher levels. Riders and horses come from Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Unlike purely sporting events, Gut Basthorst also offers a relaxed weekend atmosphere: the courtyard café serves cakes and lunch dishes, and the riders' get-together meets in the evening in the festival tent.
The eastern Lauenburg region between Hamburg and the Mecklenburg border is a rather quiet, rural area with forests, lakes, and historic estates. Those who spend a weekend here often combine the show jumping tournament with an excursion to the Schaalsee lake, the Sachsenwald forest, or the Hanseatic city of Lauenburg on the Elbe.
From July 10 to 12, 2026, Gut Basthorst will host its annual show jumping tournament. Three days of equestrian sport with show jumping competitions in multiple classes on the grounds of the historic estate in the Duchy of Lauenburg district.
The sporting program is accompanied by the courtyard café, the festival tent, and a small craft market offering horse-related items. The atmosphere is friendly — Gut Basthorst has been an established host for years, mastering the blend of competition and relaxed estate weekend.
