Traditional sports and club festival of SV Kohlhof in the Neunkirchen district
The Sportfest Kohlhof is one of those typical Saarland club festivals that shape the social life of the districts. SV Kohlhof — the sports club of the Neunkirchen district — has been celebrating its sports festival on the first weekend of June for decades. Three days of events focusing on football tournaments, complemented by family activities, club honors, and communal celebrations.
The focus is on football tournaments: youth teams of all age groups from Saarland and neighboring Rhineland-Palatinate play their matches on Saturday and Sunday, while SV Kohlhof's first team and guest teams from the region test themselves before the new season. An Over-32 team also competes against friendly clubs. Matches take place on up to three pitches simultaneously, making the weekend a true football marathon.
In addition to the sporting program, the festival offers a classic club festival program: a tombola with prizes donated by local businesses, a children's program with a bouncy castle and games, live music on Saturday evening, and a traditional Sunday morning 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) with a local music club.
A Saarland club festival wouldn't be complete without the 'Schwenker' — pork neck marinated in beer and grilled over an open fire, served with onions. Accompanied by fries, Lyoner sausage, 'Schwenkbraten' burgers, Palatinate wine, Saarland beer, and of course, Lyoner slices. This is club life as it should be.
Kohlhof is a district of Neunkirchen with just under 4,000 inhabitants, located in the southern part of the city. The district has retained its independent character, with its own clubs, its own parish, and its own sports club. It is precisely this district identity that is celebrated and maintained at the sports festival — it is much more than a sporting event; it is lived-out neighborliness.
Neunkirchen is the district capital of the Neunkirchen district in Saarland. With almost 47,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest city in the state, shaped by its former steel industry and the famous ironworks. Today, Neunkirchen is an important medium-sized center, and its districts — Wiebelskirchen, Wellesweiler, Kohlhof, and others — are the backbone of the city's club life.
As in previous years, SV Kohlhof offers three days of club life for the whole family. The festival opens on Friday with an initial football match and a convivial gathering. Saturday and Sunday are dedicated to football tournaments, complemented by live music, a tombola, and culinary offerings.
More detailed program information — especially participating guest teams and stage acts — will be communicated by SV Kohlhof via the club website and local announcements.
