Running on Germany's Northernmost Cliff Coast
The Kap Arkona Run combines sport and nature experience like hardly any other event in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The course runs in the elevated north of Rügen along the cliff coast of the Wittow peninsula, past the listed fishing village of Vitt, and ends – or starts – at Kap Arkona, the northernmost tip of Rügen with its two lighthouses and the Slavic castle complex Jaromarsburg.
Three Courses for Different Ambitions
The Half Marathon (21.1 km) starts in Juliusruh, initially leads along the beach towards Glowe and then to the cliff coast within sight of the sea. From kilometer 5, the lighthouses at the Cape become visible, and Vitt is on the route. The 10 km Run starts directly at Kap Arkona – a free shuttle bus takes runners from Juliusruh to the start. The Bambini Run over 400 m takes place the following day directly on Juliusruh beach and is open to children up to 10 years old.
Wittow, Kap Arkona, and the Vorpommern-Rügen District
Breege-Juliusruh and Putgarten belong to the Vorpommern-Rügen district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Baltic Sea resort of Juliusruh, with its wide sandy beach and the Schaabe – one of the most beautiful spits of land on the Baltic Sea – is a popular holiday destination. The run makes full use of this natural scenery: no city center route, no asphalt kilometers, but beach access, high-cliff paths, and small coastal roads. A kite festival with a family program rounds off the weekend on Juliusruh beach.
