11th SpargelTafel Emden in the Rathaus Karree

Asparagus in Open-Air Format

Asparagus is a seasonal specialty in Northern Germany, shaping its own culinary tradition in spring and early summer. Emden has developed its own event format with the SpargelTafel, bringing asparagus into public space: Brückstraße – a central shopping street in the Rathaus Karree – is transformed into an open-air dining area with around 250 seats.

Classic Asparagus Menu

Participating restaurants serve a classic asparagus menu with Emden asparagus and typical side dishes. Agilio/Leckerpott and Goldener Adler have been long-term partners of the event and guarantee high gastronomic quality. Usually, asparagus is served with ham or salmon, Hollandaise sauce, boiled potatoes, and a vegetarian alternative.

Atmosphere at the Table

The beer table sets are arranged in long rows along Brückstraße. The setup encourages a communal experience: those who reserve a seat sit at a table with other guests. The relaxed atmosphere combines the Tafel format with the charm of a civic meal. Background music and occasional live acts complement the culinary experience.

Tradition Since 2015

The SpargelTafel is entering its 11th edition and has established itself as a fixture in Emden's event calendar. The organizer is the Werbegemeinschaft Rathaus Karree Emden e.V., which promotes the revitalization of the city quarter around Emden's town hall with this event. Reserving seats through the participating restaurants is recommended.
