Volksfest in the Hop Town

Spalt is one of Bavaria's traditional hop-growing towns and is located in the Roth district, in southern Middle Franconia – in the Franconian Lake District. The Spalter Volksfest is one of the region's major spring Volksfeste and attracts visitors from the entire Lake District every year. The town of Spalt organizes the festival together with the festival host »Schuhmann«.

Festival Tent and Atmosphere

Spalt is one of the few German towns where hop cultivation still shapes the cityscape today – the "Hopfentaschen" (hop bags) and "Hopfengaden" (hop barns) in the town center are historical testimonies. The Spalter Volksfest does not explicitly highlight this identity feature – as a classic Volksfest, it follows the Bavarian spring festival tent format – but Spalter Bier is present everywhere.
