Autumn festival and plant market at Berlin's oldest company, since 1720
In 1720, around 100 years before the founding of the German Empire and 285 years before reunification, Christoph Späth founded the present-day nursery in Berlin. It is Berlin's oldest manufacturing company, operated without interruption since the 18th century. In 2026, the company will celebrate its 306th birthday — and the annual Traditionsfest is the company's largest event.
The festival grounds cover a good 50 hectares and resemble a botanical park with sales operations. During the Traditionsfest, the historic halls, fields, and the carp pond open up:
The festival is explicitly family-oriented. Children up to 16 years old have free admission, and there are craft activities with natural materials and an archery range in the "House of Trees". Carriage rides and fairy tale performances do not cost extra.
The Späth'sche Baumschulen are located in the Baumschulenweg district of Treptow-Köpenick — and the district owes its name directly to the company. From a historical perspective, the festival is therefore not just a plant market, but a district festival: the district was co-created here. The Treptow-Köpenick district is considered Berlin's greenest, and a day at Späth's is a good start for a walk along the Britzer Zweigkanal or to the nearby Treptower Park.
The 2026 edition celebrates the 306th birthday of Späth'sche Baumschulen — one of the few Berlin companies that have been producing without interruption since 1720. The festival runs on the weekend of September 19–20, 2026 on the historic grounds at Späthstraße 80/81, Baumschulenweg district, Treptow-Köpenick borough. Both days 9 AM–6 PM.
