Over 100 exhibitors and 300 tulip varieties in Berlin's oldest nursery
Späth's Nurseries were founded in 1720, making them one of the oldest horticultural and nursery operations in Europe. Covering 17 hectares between Baumschulenweg and Späthstraße in the Treptow-Köpenick district, it's an unusual Berlin landscape: old avenue lindens, a historic botanical garden, show beds, plant quarters, a neo-Gothic administrative building, and a Black Barn. Those leaving Berlin-Baumschulenweg and turning towards Späthstraße suddenly find themselves in a world between gardening history and active nursery operations.
The Spring Festival is the highlight of the Späth year. Over 100 exhibitors — plant producers from Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland, garden accessory dealers, artisans, Berlin-themed jewelry — set up their stalls in the show beds and plant quarters. The centerpiece is a spectacular tulip show with over 300 varieties in full bloom. In addition, there's live music, garden talks, and a garden reading cart with specialized literature. Families will find stories in the Black Barn, craft workshops in a tent, and theater performances by the Monbijou Theater.
The Treptow-Köpenick district, with over 168 km², is Berlin's largest district by area and its greenest. Späth's Nurseries are located at the transition from the densely populated Baumschulenweg to the further green areas of Plänterwald and Köllnische Heide. The Spring Festival utilizes this location and its historical heritage — an excursion that combines Berlin's city history with garden culture.
New for 2026: an art meadow with creative activities and a reading cart with specialized literature on garden topics. The remaining program points follow the established format: tulip show, plant stalls, street food, family program.
