Traditional concert of the Festspiele MV in the oldest timber-framed church on the Baltic Sea
The Church of Landow in the municipality of Dreschvitz (Vorpommern-Rügen district, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) is the oldest timber-framed church in the southern Baltic Sea region, dating from around 1313. Its structural simplicity and warm acoustics make it one of the most atmospheric small concert churches in the region — and, since the early days of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the oldest annually used venue of the festival.
The Musikfest Landow is organized in cooperation between the Festspiele MV and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (hmt). Students and teachers perform music together — a format that nurtures talent without compromising artistic quality. The program is dominated by chamber music, often with connections to composers from Mecklenburg or the Baltic Sea region.
The Musikfest 2026 is part of the 27th Landow Summer of Music, organized throughout the year by the Friends of the Church of Landow Association. While most concerts in the series charge an admission fee, the Musikfest Landow of the Festspiele MV is traditionally free of charge — a deliberate gesture to underscore the close connection between the region, the university, and the festival.
The 2026 edition continues the established cooperative format between the Festspiele MV and the hmt Rostock. Students and teachers perform music together — a format that integrates the university's emerging talents into the festival context early on, while guaranteeing artistic maturity.
Programmatically, chamber music works have been regularly presented in recent years; the exact program and participating soloists will be published on the Festspiele MV program page. The concert traditionally begins at 2:00 PM and lasts approximately 60–90 minutes, depending on the program.
Also part of the 27th Landow Summer of Music, coordinated by the Friends of the Church of Landow Association. Detailed program: kirchelandow.de/programm-2026 (from the end of March 2026).
