Anniversary edition under the elevated railway — up to 100,000 visitors on a mile of Wuppertal tradition
Since 1976, the Sonnborner Trödel- und Klöngelsmarkt has brought together collectors, bargain hunters, and sightseers under Wuppertal's landmark — the Schwebebahn. For the 50th anniversary edition on May 30, 2026, the Sonnborn district is expected to be particularly crowded: estimates speak of up to 100,000 visitors in good weather. The market is organized by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sonnborner Vereine (AGSV), an association of local clubs that has kept the market alive for decades.
The market mile stretches along Sonnborner Straße (between Kirchhofstraße and Wendepunkt), extends onto Remigiusstraße to the park, and fills numerous side streets. Around 100 dealers — professionals and private individuals, antique enthusiasts and clearance veterans — offer furniture, books, records, toys, clothing, household items, and curiosities. Those who search patiently will find everything that makes a collector's heart beat faster.
After the closure of several other regional flea markets, the Sonnborner market has become one of the largest of its kind in Wuppertal. The atmosphere is typically "bergisch": lively, friendly, tinged with dialect. "Klöngeln" is the Low Rhenish word for pleasant chatting and trading — this is what defines the market's character.
Anyone who wants to sell their own items can secure stand space from the AGSV. Sales will take place on March 14 and 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at the Sonnborner fire station (Rutenbecker Weg 10). Experience shows that demand is high — arriving early is recommended.
Sonnborn is a western district of Wuppertal, located between Vohwinkel and Elberfeld, characterized by the Schwebebahn line and the Sonnborner Hauptkirche (main church) that gives the area its name. Its location directly on the A46 motorway makes the flea market easily accessible regionally. In the Vohwinkel borough, Sonnborn embodies the cozy, small-town Wuppertal lifestyle.
For the 50th birthday of the Sonnborner Trödelmarkt, Sonnborner Straße transforms into a mile of antiques, toys, records, furniture, and curiosities. In good weather, the AGSV expects up to 100,000 visitors — an exceptional Wuppertal event.
