Half a Century of Sommernachtsfest
The Sommernachtsfest of the BRK Wasserwacht Mainparksee local group is one of the oldest summer festivals in the district of Aschaffenburg. 2026 will celebrate the 50th edition – an occasion that particularly underscores the decades-long tradition of the festival.
Steckerlfisch and Coffee & Cake
Culinary hallmarks are the Steckerlfisch – fresh fish grilled on a skewer over charcoal – and the extensive coffee and cake buffet, prepared by the volunteer team. Beer, wine, soft drinks, and ice cream complement the offerings directly on the shore of the Mainparksee.
Youth Torch Swimming
The highlight on Saturday evening is the traditional torch swimming by the youth group. The young members of the Wasserwacht swim across the lake with burning torches – an atmospheric spectacle that has been associated with the Mainparksee for generations in the region.
Wasserwacht Tradition
The organizer is the BRK Wasserwacht Mainparksee local group. The festival serves not only for socializing but also for fundraising and recruiting young talent: The Wasserwacht is a voluntary organization that supervises swimming lakes and river sections in the summer.
Mainaschaff in Bavarian Untermain
Mainaschaff is located directly on the Main river, west of the independent city of Aschaffenburg in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg. The Mainparksee is a popular local recreation area with a swimming beach, playground, and water sports facilities – the ideal setting for an open-air summer festival.
