Grand Open-Air Picnic Concert for the 60th Anniversary of the Ludwigsburg Music Association on the Bärenwiese
The Sommernacht der Musik 2026 is not an ordinary concert — it is the anniversary celebration of the Ludwigsburg Music Association, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026. The association unites the music clubs and singing choirs of the city of Ludwigsburg and its districts — from brass bands to symphony orchestras, from accordion ensembles to men's choirs. For this occasion, the association representatives have developed a very special format: a joint open-air concert on one of the city's most beautiful meadows.
The venue is the Bärenwiese — a spacious park meadow opposite the Blühendes Barock in Ludwigsburg's palace gardens. For decades, the meadow has been a popular picnic spot for Ludwigsburg residents — and this tradition is precisely what the Sommernacht der Musik picks up on: Concertgoers are explicitly asked to bring their own picnic baskets. Spread out blankets on the meadow, unpack bread, cheese, wine, and fruit — and then listen.
The concert concept divides the program into three clearly defined blocks, each with its own associations and musical focuses:
The opening act will be accordion players from Ludwigsburg's accordion clubs. An unusual choice for a festival opening — but the accordion tradition, in particular, is deeply rooted in southern Germany and immediately creates a warm, intimate atmosphere.
The Zither Club Orchestra from Ossweil (a district of Ludwigsburg) will perform with a large project choir — rehearsed especially for the Sommernacht der Musik, featuring well-known songs that the audience can sing along to. The project choir is open to singers from the entire region who rehearse with the music association.
The highlight: over 100 musicians from Ludwigsburg's music associations plus members of the Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra will perform world hits — an eclectic program of classical, pop, and Schlager classics, newly arranged for the open-air event. A grand finale with the audience as a sing-along choir is expected.
Ludwigsburg, with around 96,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest cities in the Ludwigsburg district (AGS 08118). Shaped as the ducal residence of Württemberg in the 18th century, it houses one of Germany's largest Baroque palaces (Ludwigsburg Residential Palace) and the famous Blühendes Barock — the extensive palace gardens. The Bärenwiese is located directly adjacent to this culturally and historically valuable park.
Like all events organized by the Ludwigsburg Music Association, the Sommernacht der Musik is free to attend. Donations for the association's work (young musicians, instruments, sheet music) are welcome — collection baskets will be passed around during the concert. In case of bad weather, the concert will be moved to the Forum am Schlosspark; the Bärenwiese will remain open but is uncovered.
The concert concept is divided into three clearly defined blocks, played one after another. Intermissions between blocks are for the audience to picnic and chat.
The accordion players from Ludwigsburg's accordion clubs will open the concert. Repertoire: Southern German accordion classics, operetta themes, sentimental pieces.
The Zither Club Orchestra from Ossweil will present its program together with the large project choir of the music association. Repertoire: well-known songs to sing along to, Swabian classics, German folk songs.
The highlight: over 100 musicians from Ludwigsburg's associations and members of the Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra will perform world hits. Repertoire (typical for such occasions): "Bohemian Rhapsody" as an orchestral arrangement, "Hey Jude" as a grand finale, classical film scores, Schlager classics.
The concert will conclude with a grand finale, in which the audience is invited to sing along.
