Three-day summer wine festival in the Untertürkheim vineyards below the Württemberg Mausoleum — Live music Saturday, jazz brunch Sunday
When the sun slowly sets over the Württemberg Mausoleum on the second-to-last weekend in August, bathing the Untertürkheim vineyards in golden light, the Sommerliche Wein-Zeit is back. From August 21 to 23, 2026, the wine terrace at Württembergstraße 70, Stuttgart-Untertürkheim, transforms into a three-day open-air wine bar — right in the vineyards, with one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the Stuttgart region. The festival is supported by two leading Untertürkheim wineries: Weinmanufaktur Untertürkheim and Weingut im Hattenloh.
The location is unique: the wine terrace is located directly below the Württemberg Mausoleum on the Württemberg — one of the prominent hills in the Neckar Valley. The Mausoleum is the neoclassical mausoleum chapel that King Wilhelm I. had built between 1819 and 1824 for his wife Queen Katharina Pawlowna, who died in 1819. Today, it stands as a striking landmark above the Neckar Valley — and is the spectacular backdrop for the Wein-Zeit. From the festival grounds, you have a wide panoramic view over the Untertürkheim vineyards, the Stuttgart city center, and the Neckar Valley.
The focus of the Wein-Zeit is the wines and sparkling wines from the two organizing wineries:
Weinmanufaktur Untertürkheim is one of the best-known names in Württemberg viticulture, with approximately 250 hectares of vineyards. It produces the typical range of Württemberg wines: Trollinger, Lemberger, Riesling, Kerner, Spätburgunder, and sparkling wines from grapes grown on its own land.
Weingut im Hattenloh is a smaller, family-run winery with vineyards on the Württemberg hill and in Hattenloh. It has gained a reputation particularly for its high-quality Spätburgunder and unusual cuvées.
The musical program is deliberately relaxed — no festival stage with headliners, but small live acts on the wine terrace:
The atmosphere on the wine terrace is deliberately relaxed. You sit among the vines, overlooking the city and the Stuttgart mountains to the west, tasting wines from the typical Württemberg selection, enjoying bread, cheese, Maultaschen salads, ham platters, or a sweet tart. The evening lighting with fairy lights in the vines creates an intimate mood. Families are welcome — although the Wein-Zeit is primarily intended for adults.
The district of Untertürkheim belongs to the Stuttgart district of Untertürkheim and lies on the right bank of the Neckar in the Stuttgart basin. It has been a wine-growing district for centuries — the slopes around the Württemberg hill are among the oldest wine-growing areas in southern Germany. However, Untertürkheim became famous primarily for the Mercedes-Benz plant Untertürkheim — the headquarters of Daimler and the birthplace of the automobile. This dual identity — wine and car — makes the district unique in Stuttgart's city history.
The Sommerliche Wein-Zeit 2026 will take place on the second-to-last weekend in August in the proven three-day format. The wine terrace below the Württemberg Mausoleum becomes a relaxed tasting venue: Friday kicks off the festival in the evening with wine bar atmosphere, Saturday features live music from 7 p.m., and Sunday opens with a jazz brunch.
Weinmanufaktur Untertürkheim and Weingut im Hattenloh share responsibility — both present their best drops from Württemberg viticulture. Trollinger, Lemberger, Riesling, Kerner, and Spätburgunder form the classic range, complemented by in-house sparkling wines. Food pairings include bread, cheese, Maultaschen salads, and ham platters — relaxed, not festival-loud.
Free admission. Wine tasting à la carte via tokens/wristband system or per-glass billing at the stands of the two wineries.
By S-Bahn: S1 Stuttgart–Plochingen, Untertürkheim stop, then bus 61 or 62 to Württembergstraße. By car: A8 exit Stuttgart-Wangen, then towards Untertürkheim. Parking available in the district — no parking at the festival site, short walk from the bus stop.
Free admission. Wine tasting à la carte via tokens/wristband system or per-glass billing at the winery stands.
Come on Saturday for sunset — the view over the Neckar Valley and the city of Stuttgart with the setting sun is spectacular. Travel by S-Bahn — wine tasting and driving do not mix.
