Forest, Crafts, and Tradition in One Day
The Rostocker Forest Day is the most important nature event in the Rostocker Heide and has been a reliable family event in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for years. The venue is the Forst- und Köhlerhof Wiethagen in the south of the Hanseatic city of Rostock — the historic charcoal burner's yard (Köhlerhof) from 1837 provides the perfect backdrop between forest, industrial history, and a rural festival atmosphere.
A Broad Program Centered Around the Forest
The forest day is organized in cooperation between the yard and the Rostock Forestry Office and the Rostock & Warnemünde Tourist Center. Topics related to forests, forestry, hunting, and regional customs are presented at various experience stations. Key program elements include:
- Choir and Hunting Horn Blowers in the courtyard
- Wood Sculptors at work
- Game Management Area Presentation and hunting association
- Certified Mushroom Consultation
- Courtyard Gastronomy with game dishes and regional classics
- Campfire
- Activity stations for children focusing on animals, trees, herbs, and fairy tales
A Day in the Natural Realm
The Rostocker Heide is one of the largest contiguous forest areas on the German Baltic Sea coast. It extends northeast of the Hanseatic city of Rostock to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula and is managed by the municipal forestry office. The forest day makes the forest tangible for a broad audience: what grows in it, who cares for it, who uses it — and what stories and traditions are associated with it.
Family Event with Free Admission
Admission to the forest day is free. The courtyard is extensively used, and consumption and hands-on stations usually cost small amounts. The event is typically attended by several thousand guests from Rostock, the surrounding district, and the Baltic Sea resorts, and is considered a reliable anchor in the early autumn event calendar.
