Classical chamber concerts in the summer refectory of Bebenhausen Monastery
The summer refectory in Bebenhausen Monastery is one of the most beautiful concert venues in Southern Germany: a 14th-century Cistercian dining hall with an elegant vaulted ceiling, historic masonry, and excellent acoustics. With around 400 seats, the space is large enough for a diverse audience but intimate enough to experience chamber music in its full intimacy. Every Saturday in June and July (six dates) the space is transformed into a concert hall — the "Sommerkonzerte Bebenhausen" series is one of the oldest and most renowned chamber music series in the region.
The summer concerts are supported by three institutions: the Cultural Department of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, the Museumsgesellschaft Tübingen e.V., and the University City of Tübingen. This combination of university, civic association, and city has secured the cultural and financial foundation for decades.
Six dates, six different ensembles and soloists. The 2026 selection ranges from Tübingen's own main orchestra to international guests from Prague, Italy, and Berlin. The series opens with Concerto Tübingen on June 13, followed by Camerata Bohemica Prague on June 20 (6:30 PM), Klavierduo Italia on June 27 (6:30 PM), Ensemble Martinu Prague on July 4 (6:30 PM), an Opera Gala with Antonella Baldantoni (Soprano) and Vito Clemente (Piano) on July 11 (6:30 PM), and the Berliner Symphoniker Chamber Orchestra on July 18.
Bebenhausen Monastery is located in the Tübingen district of the same name — a former Cistercian monastery founded in 1190, it is now one of the best-preserved monastery complexes in Southern Germany. The complex belongs to the State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-Württemberg and is embedded in a palace park. Located a few kilometers north of Tübingen's city center in the Schönbuch nature reserve, Bebenhausen is one of the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Tübingen district.
Founded in 1477, Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen is one of the oldest universities in Germany. For decades, the university's Cultural Department has maintained a diverse concert tradition — the summer concerts are its central format outside the lecture hall.
