Experience fair around home, garden, and spring trends in Maxipark Hamm
The Maximilianpark in Hamm covers 22 hectares and was created in 1984 from the grounds of the former Maximilian colliery. Today, it is Hamm's most important leisure park, featuring a butterfly house, play areas, themed zones, and a botanical-cultural supporting program. The Frühjahrsmarkt is the traditional opening event of the park season — a season opener that draws Hamm's citizens and thousands of day-trippers to the park.
Over 100 exhibitors present their offerings at the three-day market: spring perennials, equipment, outdoor furniture, grills, seeds, plant pots, tools, umbrellas. In addition, artisans with ceramics, jewelry, textiles, and wood. Gourmet stands offer regional specialties, from Westphalian ham to honey and mulled wine. Advice from professionals (landscape gardeners, nurseries, florists) included.
The Maxipark is one of the most family-friendly parks in the Ruhr area/Westphalia. While parents browse the market, children romp in the play areas, visit the butterfly house, or explore the park's water playground. This makes the Frühjahrsmarkt a classic family day trip.
Hamm is located in the northeastern Ruhr area, at the interface with Münsterland. With around 180,000 inhabitants, the city is one of the largest in Westphalia. The Maxipark has an impact far beyond Hamm — visitors come from Dortmund, Soest, Beckum, Lippstadt, and Münster. In 2026, the Frühjahrsmarkt also falls within the anniversary year "Hamm800" — the city celebrates its 800th anniversary with numerous special events.
The Frühjahrsmarkt is the start of a long series of events: summer festival, family festivals, autumn light installations, autumn market, and more. Those who come once, usually come back.
The 2026 Frühjahrsmarkt coincides with the Hamm800 anniversary and opens the new season in the Maxipark. Thousands of garden lovers and day-trippers use the weekend for purchasing perennials and equipment, as well as for a park visit.
