Castle Christmas Market on the Falkenstein Castle Ruins with jewellery, ornaments, ceramics, wood crafts, and daily Santa Claus visit
The Christmas market at Falkenstein Castle Ruins near Falkenstein in the Donnersberg district is one of the most atmospheric castle Christmas events in Northern Palatinate. In the remains of the medieval castle walls, in a unique elevated position above the Northern Palatinate landscape, the Falkenstein Local Heritage Association transforms the ruins into a special Christmas market on one Advent weekend.
In 2026, the market will run on the weekend of December 12th and 13th (3rd Advent). Saturday 2 PM-8 PM, Sunday 10 AM-6 PM. Jewellery, ornaments, ceramics, toys, and wood crafts will be offered. Bratwurst, potato pancakes, mulled wine, and Falkenstein schnapps will provide refreshments. Daily Santa Claus visit at 5 PM.
Falkenstein Castle Ruins is one of the most impressive medieval sites in Northern Palatinate. Its backdrop for a Christmas market is unique: the old walls, illuminated by fairy lights and torches, create an almost magical atmosphere, far removed from commercial Christmas market formats. The market combines medieval history with Advent magic.
The Falkenstein Local Heritage Association is the organizer of the event and has been organizing the castle Christmas market for many years. The voluntary work of the association members – from setting up the stalls to catering and programme planning – makes the market possible in the first place. The proceeds flow back into the maintenance of the castle ruins and into the association's activities.
The offerings are carefully curated and characterized by contemplative craftsmanship: jewellery made from natural materials, ornaments made of wood and glass, ceramics in Christmas shapes, wooden toys, traditional Advent decorations. You won't find industrially produced mass goods here. Instead: individual, handmade gifts that underline the special character of the market.
The catering stalls offer bratwurst, potato pancakes, mulled wine in several varieties, and Falkenstein schnapps – a local specialty. The daily Santa Claus visit at 5 PM is a traditional highlight for families with children. Santa Claus distributes gifts and is the centrepiece of a small welcoming ceremony.
