Traditional summer fair on the last weekend of August in the Saarbrücken district
Dudweiler was an independent town until 1974 – the second largest in Saarland at the time – before being incorporated into Saarbrücken. The district has retained this independent history to this day, and its clubs, festivals, and traditions are correspondingly vibrant. The Sommerkirmes is one of the most important festivals of identity: a place where Dudweiler's history, present, and neighborhood come together.
The Sommerkirmes traditionally runs from Friday to Tuesday, with a focus on the weekend. The Dudweiler Carneval Club (DCC) stand is located on the Alter Markt – the driving force behind the cultural program. Here you'll find beer, Schwenker (grilled meat skewers), Lyoner sausages, a stage with live music, and the traditional club life. On the neighboring Dudoplatz, however, the fair comes alive with its rides: bumper cars, carousels, chain swings, Ferris wheel, classic shooting galleries, and throwing stalls.
The DCC is much more than a carnival club – it is one of the central pillars of Dudweiler's club life and is committed to the cultural identity of the district throughout the year. The Sommerkirmes is one of its largest events, financed through stall fees, donations, and volunteer work. It is precisely this mix of tradition and volunteerism that defines the character of the festival.
A special feature: Dudweiler hosts two fairs annually. The Spring Fair in April is the smaller, family-oriented version. The Summer Fair at the end of August is the big main festival with the more extensive program. Both fairs run in the same format on Alter Markt and Dudoplatz, each organized in close cooperation between the DCC and the City of Saarbrücken.
With almost 18,000 inhabitants, Dudweiler is one of Saarbrücken's largest districts and is located in the Saarbrücken Regional Association. It has its own town hall, its own clubs, and its own district newspaper. The fair reflects this independent identity: it's not Saarbrücken celebrating here, it's Dudweiler celebrating.
As in previous years, the Dudweiler Carneval Club (DCC) is organizing the event together with the state capital Saarbrücken. The DCC will provide catering and stage program on the Alter Markt, while the rides will spin on the Dudoplatz. Families can look forward to children's carousels, candy stalls, and nostalgic shooting galleries.
The exact list of showmen and stage program for 2026 will be announced by the DCC and the City of Saarbrücken shortly before the event via their official channels.
The exact program for 2026 – especially live music acts and any extension until Tuesday – will be announced by the DCC via dudweiler-dcc.de and Facebook.
