100 Years of Music in the Ries
The Musikverein Ederheim e.V. was founded in 1925, making it one of the most traditional brass bands in the Nördlinger Ries. In 2025, the club celebrated its 100th anniversary with the 33rd District Music Festival of the Allgäu-Schwäbischer Musikbund. The annual Sommerfest is a fixed date in the club's calendar.
Club Festival in the Ries
Ederheim is a small village in the Swabian municipality of Ederheim (Donau-Ries), nestled in the impressive landscape of the Nördlinger Ries – the 15-million-year-old meteorite impact crater, now a UNESCO Geopark cultural landscape. Here, the music club is more than just an association – it's an anchor of village life, with a main band, youth groups, and an active community of musicians.
The Program
The Sommerfest traditionally spans two days – Saturday evening features a ceremony with brass band music and catering, Sunday offers a morning pint (Frühschoppen) with guest bands. Swabian and Franconian specialties are served: sausages (Bratwürste), pork knuckle (Schäufele), Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli), accompanied by draft beer and apple juice. The club's main band performs its own concerts, and youth groups also perform.

The Sommerfest is part of a busy annual program: January volunteer party, April competition in Mönchsdeggingen, May to July numerous parade participations and performances in the region, September District Music Festival and Musicians' Church Service in Ederheim, December year-end concert. The Sommerfest in the middle is the club's own highlight – the festival the club organizes for itself and its friends.
Discover the Ries
Ederheim is a good starting point for a journey of discovery in the Nördlinger Ries: the historic town of Nördlingen with its intact city walls (15 km away), Harburg Castle, and the Bocksberger-Schimmelhof Museum. The Ries Geopark with its nature trails is one of Bavaria's most exciting natural destinations.

From July 18 to 19, 2026, Musikverein Ederheim e.V. invites you to its Sommerfest at the clubhouse. The date is confirmed in the official calendar on musikverein-ederheim.de. It is the central club festival of the year – following the competition in Mönchsdeggingen in April and participation in several parades in the spring.
What Visitors Can Expect
Brass music from the main band and youth groups, Swabian-Franconian specialties, draft beer, Frühschoppen on Sunday with guest bands from the region. Family-friendly atmosphere – free admission.

Getting There
Ederheim is located in the Ries administrative community, Donau-Ries district, Bavarian Swabia. By car: A7 (Würzburg–Ulm) exit Aalen-Westhausen, then B466 towards Nördlingen, turn off for Ederheim. By train: Nördlingen station (10 km away), then take a bus or taxi.
Admission
Admission to the Sommerfest is free. Food and drinks are available on-site for purchase at the club stands. Family-friendly – children welcome.
Accommodation
Inns (Gasthöfe) in Ederheim and neighboring villages Mönchsdeggingen, Harburg, and Nördlingen. For Geopark tourists, Ederheim is a good base with cozy guesthouses (Pensionen).
