Culture at the Castle Ruins
The "Summer Evening at the Castle" is one of the most traditional events in Donaustauf, a market town in the district of Regensburg in the state of Bavaria. The Donaustauf castle ruins tower above the Danube valley, in close proximity to the world-famous Walhalla, offering an impressive backdrop for an evening full of music, theatre, and conviviality. The Donaustauf Local and Tourism Association organises the festival every year on the second to last Saturday in July.
Programme
The programme changes from year to year but remains true to its character: Brass ensembles play a repertoire from the Renaissance to the modern era, vocal groups interpret pop and classical music in a contemporary style, and acrobatic performances provide spectacular moments against the historic masonry. The convivial conclusion is spent in the Kolbeckkeller with regional food and drinks.
Atmosphere
The combination of live music, acrobatics, and the special ambiance of the castle ruins makes the summer evening a firm fixture of the cultural summer in the Danube valley. Families are expressly welcome – children up to fifteen years old have free admission.
Donaustauf and the Upper Palatinate
Donaustauf is located just a few kilometres east of Regensburg and is primarily known for the Walhalla, King Ludwig I's temple of glory. The summer evening combines this rich history with vibrant contemporary culture, inviting locals and guests from the Regensburg region alike.
