International Indie Festival on the Landesgartenschau grounds in Amberg
The Sommer in der Stadt Festival Amberg is one of the younger but dynamically growing open-air festivals in the Upper Palatinate. The venue is the Landesgartenschau grounds on Bruno-Hofer-Straße – a park-like area on the outskirts of Amberg, which is permanently used as a green space and event area after the State Garden Show. The organizer is TNT Productions, who programs the festival with an international focus.
The festival deliberately positions itself broadly: Indie and Pop form the main component, complemented by Reggae, Rock, Hip-Hop, and Soul. The concept targets a mixed-age audience rather than a single subculture. With an audience capacity of around 3,000 visitors, the atmosphere remains manageable and intimate – not the mass format of Wacken, but a boutique festival with an international booking level.
Amberg is an independent city in the northern Upper Palatinate (Bavaria), known for its completely preserved historic city wall with the "Stadtbrillen" double-bridge gate on the Vils and its medieval old town. The Landesgartenschau grounds were created in 1996 for the Bavarian State Garden Show and have since been permanently developed as a recreational and event area. The Sommer in der Stadt Festival fits into this urban recreational context: a city summer festival with big-city aspirations in a manageable format.
The 2026 edition of the Sommer in der Stadt Festival Amberg once again features an international line-up. The biggest names are brought by the two-time Grammy winners Arrested Development from the USA – one of the most influential Hip-Hop bands of the 1990s – to the Amberg stage. Their performance is the musical highlight of the festival.
The South African singer-songwriter Keanan Eksteen offers a special concert: Amberg is part of his only European performance in 2026. His style blends Indie Pop and Folk with Western influences. Other confirmed acts include the Dutch Indie band The Cool Quest and the German-language pop project Falschgeld. In total, the program spans three days and covers a broad spectrum of genres from Indie and Pop to Reggae, Rock, Hip-Hop, and Soul. The festival is aimed at visitors of all age groups.
