Sommer im Park Vellmar

Culture Tent on the Outskirts of Kassel

What began as a small summer festival is now one of North Hesse's most important open-air culture series: "Sommer im Park" in Vellmar, the immediate neighbour of Kassel. For three weeks, the Vellmar team from PIAZZA transforms the park around the large white theatre tent into a festival venue where cabaret, pop, comedy, theatre, and readings alternate evening after evening.

A Theatre Tent for 1,000 People

The large white festival tent seats around 1,000 spectators. It is large enough to host national acts like Söhne Mannheims or Florian Schroeder, and at the same time small enough to maintain the atmosphere of a festival stage. A technical improvement in 2026: The control area is now located at ground level on the left side of the stands – creating additional seating and a more open sightline.

21 Evenings, 19 Days

The 2026 programme comprises 21 events over 19 days. In addition, there are two pre-festival events on August 7th and 8th (Rockmachine & Bettyford / Schlagerprinz & Band), which herald the festival before the official start. Core acts of the 2026 edition include Söhne Mannheims, MIA, Florian Schroeder, Suzanne von Borsody, Pippo Pollina, Bodo Wartke, Ass-Dur, and the children's play "Die Schule der magischen Tiere".

Catering by Party Couture

A special feature of Sommer im Park: The catering is not improvised. The catering team Party Couture cooks regional and seasonal cuisine on-site, and since 2026, tables can be reserved online – a detail that marks the transition from a summer festival to an established cultural event.

Advance Sales Start Early

The programme is typically released in spring, with advance sales starting in March/April. By the end of March 2026, 5,700 tickets had already been sold – organisers expect around 10,000 tickets for the entire series. Those who want to see their favourite act should not delay too long.
