35 Years of Parkfest in the Ahnepark

The Parkfest Vellmar is one of the most important cultural events in the North Hessian town of Vellmar – a neighboring municipality north of Kassel. In 2026, the 35th edition will be celebrated on Saturday, June 28, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The venue is the spacious Ahnepark, a well-maintained city park with an amphitheater, a pond, and stage areas.

Three Performance Zones, Diverse Program

The program is spread across three different areas in the Ahnepark:

• Amphitheater (2:00 PM–7:00 PM): Stage show with several bands from the Chroma School for Music and Dance – including The Stingrays (cover songs by Ed Sheeran, The Beatles, Johnny Cash), Dezibel (rock classics), Soundtastic, Freitagsband, Good Old Boys, and Wir waren es nicht. The finale (6:00 PM–7:00 PM) features Dance United, a dance school from Kassel.
• Kastanienhof (from 3:00 PM): SUNKVITKA presents “Soul-Blume” – a mix of 1980s music with international influences. At 5:00 PM, the Musikverein Vellmar e.V. will perform symphonic music.
• Pflasterauge (Children's Area): Performances by Florin and his Superhero Dog Cato, magician Andy Clapp, acrobatics, an obstacle course, and a petting zoo.

Culinary Offerings

Local clubs and caterers will offer coffee, cake, ice cream, crêpes, and bratwurst with drinks. The Parkfest is partly financed by the catering provided by the clubs, underscoring the connection to the town.

Vellmar in the Kassel District

Vellmar is a town of about 19,000 inhabitants in the Kassel district, located directly north of the city of Kassel. The town was formed in 1971 from the merger of several villages and quickly developed into a residential area with its own identity. The Ahnepark, as a central green space, is a meeting point for families and athletes – during the Parkfest, it becomes the festival backdrop.

Family Day with Cultural Appeal

The Parkfest is explicitly a family day: the time limit to the afternoon (2 PM–7 PM), the extensive children's program, the family-friendly atmosphere, and free admission make it an accessible event that showcases local culture – featuring music schools, dance schools, and music associations from the region.
