Sommer am Freilinger See 2026 — Two Summer Evenings at the Eifel Lake

On two Thursdays in August 2026, the municipality of Blankenheim will open its festival format „Sommer am Freilinger See". The concept: two evening open-air concerts directly on the shore of the picturesque Freilinger See in the Eifel, with live music, gastronomic specialties, and an atmosphere typical of warm summer evenings in the Eifel.

2026 Dates

The exact dates for 2026 will likely be published in early summer 2026 by the Blankenheim Tourist Information. Experience shows they fall on two Thursdays in August — usually at the beginning and middle of the month. Program — Typical Themed Evenings

Each evening traditionally has its own motto:

„Bella Italia"

• Italian live music (tenor classics, Italian pop, mandolins)
• Culinary: Pasta, pizza al taglio, antipasti, tiramisu, espresso
• Italian wines and Aperol Spritz

„Chill Out Sommerabend"

• Acoustic live music, singer-songwriters, relaxed sound
• Cocktails, wine, light dishes
• Evening ambiance by the water, sunset atmosphere

„Rock am See"

• Rock and pop cover bands
• Classic summer festival catering (bratwurst, fries, beer)
• Dancing late into the night

Additional Offerings

• Children's program until 8 PM: bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities
• Swimming opportunity in the Freilinger See (for the brave — Eifel water is never warm, even in August)
• Playground and sunbathing lawn for relaxed family picnics
• Tischlein-Deck-Dich crockery rental as a sustainable alternative to disposable plastic

Freilinger See — The Eifel Oasis

The Freilinger See is a 14-hectare artificial lake in the Freilingen district of the municipality of Blankenheim. It was created in the 1970s as a recreational body of water and is now one of the most popular local recreation destinations in the Voreifel — with sunbathing lawns, playgrounds, a campsite, small eateries, and swimming facilities. In the summer of 2026, it will become a concert and festival stage for two Thursdays.

Blankenheim — Castle Town in the Eifel

The municipality of Blankenheim, with around 8,600 inhabitants, is located in the Euskirchen district, in the heart of the Eifel. It is known primarily for the medieval Burg Blankenheim perched on a rock above the town, for its picturesque old town, and for its romantic location on the source river of the Ahr. The municipality comprises numerous small districts, including Freilingen (on the Freilinger See), Reetz, Mülheim, and Rohr. The „Sommer am See" format is one of the municipality's most important summer tourism initiatives.

Förderverein Freilingen — The Local Helpers

The format is coordinated by the municipality of Blankenheim but is significantly supported by the Förderverein Freilingen (Friends of Freilingen Association) and local clubs and residents. Without this volunteer commitment, Sommer am Freilinger See would not be possible in its current form. Donations and membership in the Förderverein are welcome.
