New Year's Eve on the North Sea — Open Air instead of Glitz and Glamour

Unlike in the big cities, New Year's Eve in Büsum is a relaxed open-air affair. The Museumshafen, a historic harbour area with old fishing cutters and a maritime atmosphere, transforms into a large dance floor for one night. The event is organised by NDR 1 Welle Nord (the regional NDR station for Schleswig-Holstein) together with the Büsum tourism association.

The DJs

• Michael Wittig — known from the NDR event scene, he sets the mood for the first part of the evening
• Knuth Kossek — the second resident DJ, who accompanies the transition to midnight and the post-fireworks celebration

The Fireworks from the Main Beach

At midnight, the grand firework display starts from Büsum's main beach, with a direct view of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage site. The combination of the harbour backdrop, the beach, and the Wadden Sea creates a unique New Year's Eve stage that cannot be experienced anywhere else in this form.

Guest Card as Admission Ticket

Entry is free with a Büsum guest card — meaning for overnight guests who pay the visitor's tax anyway. This clearly positions the event as a tourist offering for New Year's Eve holidaymakers who want to see out the year in a maritime setting.

In the Dithmarschen District

Büsum is one of the most important family resorts on the German North Sea coast and is located in the Dithmarschen district. With around 4,700 inhabitants, but millions of guests per year, the seaside resort has a diverse range of events — the New Year's Eve party is one of the highlights, complemented by the NDR Festival in July, Family Day, and many other events.
