Official opening weekend of the Koblenz Wine Festival on Josef-Görres-Platz
The Weinfestival Koblenz has been the central anchor for the wine culture of the city at the confluence of the Rhine and Mosel rivers since 2021. Over nearly two months – from May 8th to July 11th, 2026 – the festival combines classic wine tastings, urban pop-up formats, boat tours on the Rhine, electronic open-air sets, and neighborhood visits by the Vinothek on Tour into a cohesive experience. The Opening Weekend on Josef-Görres-Platz forms the festive start.
The organizer is Koblenz-Touristik GmbH, which hosts the festival in close cooperation with the vintners from the four Koblenz wine regions (Ehrenbreitstein, Güls, Lay, and Moselweiß) as well as the neighboring growing regions of Mosel, Mittelrhein, and Ahr. On Josef-Görres-Platz, a central square not far from the Forum Confluentes, an open wine mile with tasting stands, a stage, and gastronomic offerings is created.
The official start signal is given by Lord Mayor David Langner on Friday afternoon. Between 3 PM and 4:30 PM, participating wineries offer free tasting sips – an unusual offer that underscores the festival's accessible character. Afterward, the stage takes over with cover band DowntownStage directing the festivities for the evening.
Saturday is dedicated to guided wine tastings: at 12 PM, 2 PM, and 5 PM, regional focuses are served with explanations. In the evening, the cover band Accidentally plays rock and pop classics. Sunday starts jazzy with the trio Swing Ahead (11 AM–2 PM) and ends acoustically with the duo Sticky & Strange from 3 PM. In parallel, the Ufer-Bar at Schlossvorplatz and the Landpartie on Ehrenbreitstein Fortress open, turning the opening weekend into an urban city marathon of wine culture.
Koblenz-Touristik offers a hotel package for the opening weekend with two nights' accommodation, breakfast, and tickets for the wine tastings. When purchasing a wine tasting, a VRM travel ticket is also included – an invitation to use buses and trains.
