Münsterland summer festival with street theatre, acrobatics, musical variety, and Klangspuren concerts – free on three stages
The Dülmener Sommer is one of Westmünsterland's most unusual festival initiatives. The town of Dülmen, a small town of 47,000 inhabitants between Münster and the Ruhr area, has been programming international top companies in street theatre, acrobatics, variety, and live music for years – completely free, supported by sponsors and the town. In August 2026, the concept will continue with five main events at different venues.
The opener: Bosstime, a renowned German tribute band, brings Bruce Springsteen's hits to the Münsterland. Main stage: Marktplatz. 8:00 PM – 11:30 PM.
Bucraá Circus from Spain – one of Europe's most innovative Nuevo Circo companies. „El Gran Final“ is an acrobatic theatre piece that merges clowning, acrobatics, and absurd theatre. Venue: Marktplatz. 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
Cologne's N.N. Theater has been one of Germany's most important street theatre companies for decades. Their adaptation of the Till Eulenspiegel story combines folk theatre with contemporary staging. Venue: Hermann-Leeser-Schulhof (Charleville-Mézières-Platz 2). 9:00 PM – 10:45 PM.
The WOW Varieté show combines a classic variety format with modern show elements: artists, singers, comedians. Venue: THW-Gelände (An der Lehmkuhle 57). 9:00 PM – 10:15 PM.
The French Société Protectrice de Petites Idées presents „Heavy Motors“ – a theatre piece about speed, machines, and urban lifestyles, using real heavy equipment. One of the most unusual programme items. Venue: THW-Gelände. 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
Running parallel to the main programme is the Klangspuren concert series: regional bands play in Dülmen restaurants and cafés – informal evenings with live music, food, and drinks. From July to September 2026, spread over several dates. Programme at duelmen-marketing.de.
Three venues distribute the festival traffic across the town:
The festival emphasizes its access for all: all events are free, all are accessible (varying by venue), all are amplified for good acoustics. The programme is financed by sponsors – the town of Dülmen has built a strong sponsor alliance in recent years that maintains the quality.
Dülmen is a town of 47,000 inhabitants in the Coesfeld district, located between Münster and the Ruhr area. It is known for the Dülmen Wild Horses (Europe's only wild horse herd in the Merfelder Bruch) and its cultural energy. The town has been investing in a dense cultural programme for years – the Dülmener Sommer is its flagship.
