What is the Sicilian Street Food Festival?
The Sicilian Street Food Festival is Berlin's platform for Sicilian street food culture. The organizer is Duo Sicilian Ice Cream, a Berlin-based provider with Sicilian roots, who has established an annual event with the festival — the 2026 edition is the second. The venue is the Festsaal Kreuzberg, one of Berlin's largest freestanding event halls, which, despite its name containing "Kreuzberg", is technically located in the Alt-Treptow district (Treptow-Köpenick borough), at Flutgraben 2.
What to Eat
The program is focused: authentic Sicilian street food classics, served by 20 stands that are flown in for the weekend or come from Sicilian providers in Germany. On the menu:
- Arancini — fried rice balls, filled with ragù, cheese, or spinach
- Pane con la milza — bun with calf's spleen, the street food icon of Palermo
- Sfincione — Sicilian pizza with tomato, onion, anchovies, and caciocavallo
- Cannoli — fried pastry tubes with ricotta cream
- Granita — Sicilian semi-frozen dessert, often lemon, almond, or pistachio
Masterclasses and Tastings
Accompanying the stands, there is a program of masterclasses — guided tastings and mini-workshops explaining the artisanal techniques behind the classics:
- Pistachio specialties (Bronte)
- Cannoli making
- Granita preparation
Live Music from Sicily
The musical backdrop is provided by artists directly from Sicily. In 2026, I Beddi from Acireale will play a live concert; Marco Meli from Bronte will perform a DJ set. The musical connection links street food with Sicilian music and dance traditions — making the festival more than just a food event.
Festsaal Kreuzberg as the Venue
The Festsaal Kreuzberg is one of Berlin's largest freestanding event halls — with its own hall, outdoor area, and direct proximity to the Spree riverbank. Despite its name, the Festsaal is not located in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, but in the Alt-Treptow district (Treptow-Köpenick borough), at Am Flutgraben 2 — right on the district border, which has led to name confusion. The venue has been a central address for concerts, festivals, and major cultural events for decades.
