Best-Ager Rock Festival at the former Eggebek military airfield
The former Eggebek military airfield was operated as a naval air base by the Bundeswehr until 2005. Today, the extensive area is the venue for one of northern Germany's most unusual rock festivals. The Shelter Festival uses the jet hangars as its festival backdrop — a mix of military history stage and rock festival atmosphere that no other open-air venue in Schleswig-Holstein offers.
The concept is clear: a festival for the generation that experienced the spirit of the 80s and 90s live — and for their children. 16 bands on several stages, three days of festival, a clear focus on Rock, Pop, and Tributes. In the state of Schleswig-Holstein, and especially in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, the format has become a brand.
The 2026 edition features two top headliners:
The lineup is complemented by tribute acts that have been shaping the German festival scene for years:
On Thursday (July 16th), vintage stars Albano & Romina Power will kick off the festival.
The festival has its own campsite, which opens on Thursday at 4:00 PM. Early arrivals (from 10 AM) can wait in a designated airport area. The Shelter Festival is socially committed through its partnership with the DKMS: visitors can register on-site to become stem cell donors — every 12 minutes, someone in Germany is diagnosed with leukemia.
The 2026 edition cements the Shelter Festival's profile as a rock and best-ager festival with a historic backdrop. Three days, 16 bands, multiple stages in and around the jet hangars of the former Eggebek naval air base.
Headliners to highlight: Camouflage will get the audience moving on Friday with their 1980s synth-pop classics. On Saturday, Ray Wilson, the former Genesis frontman (1997–1998, "Calling All Stations" era), will take the stage. The Thursday evening features Italian vintage stars Albano & Romina Power for the warm-up.
Daily schedules and set times will be published on shelter-festival.de in the week before the festival.
By Car: A7 exit Tarp, then follow signs for Eggebek. Route guidance for Thursday arrivals differs from Friday/Saturday — see the route map on shelter-festival.de.
