16. Sekt in the City Greiz

One Night, the Entire City Center — Since 2010

The idea is inspired by American culture — the name «Sekt in the City» alludes to the cult series. From this concept, the city of Greiz has developed its own format since 2010: once a year, the entire city center transforms into an evening experience night. Shops that usually close at 6 or 7 PM stay open until midnight, combining sales with experiences: fashion shows in boutiques, beauty promotions at hairdressers, cocktails in restaurants, live music in cafes.

Women's Shopping with a Social Component

Unlike typical «Long Shopping Nights,» the format explicitly targets women — as a meeting point, experience, and social evening. Groups of friends, mother-daughter pairs, and women's circles from the Vogtland region travel from Reichenbach, Plauen, Zeulenroda, Gera, and the surrounding area. The social aspect is considered as important as sales: «Sekt in the City» is as much a meeting place as it is a shopping night.

2026 — The 16th Edition

Greizer Freizeit- und Dienstleistungs-GmbH organizes the event together with downtown retailers, restaurateurs, and the city of Greiz. The 16th edition on Friday, September 4, 2026, has already been confirmed on the city's event page — preparations have been underway since spring. As every year, live musicians, DJs, fashion shows, and discount promotions will shape the program. The focus of the open-air activities is Puschkinplatz in the heart of downtown Greiz.

Greiz and the Vogtland

Greiz is the district capital of the Greiz district in the extreme east of Thuringia, on the border with Saxony. The city on the White Elster river bend was once the residence of the Princes Reuss older line — the Lower and Upper Castles still shape the cityscape today. In the Vogtland — a region that extends across Saxony, Thuringia, and Bavaria — Greiz is the Thuringian center. The city center of Greiz, with its historic houses, small squares, and established retail structure, offers the ideal backdrop for a night like «Sekt in the City».
