Atmospheric summer festival at Hahnenweiher and in the Schönsee spa park — live music, beer gardens, glittering lights, and a grand fireworks display on the last Sunday in July
Schönsee is a small town in the district of Schwandorf in the Upper Palatinate, in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park, near the Czech border. The Seefest is its largest summer event and one of the most atmospheric festivals in Eastern Bavaria. It traditionally takes place on the last Sunday in July around the Hahnenweiher and in the adjacent Kurpark.
The venue is the area around the Hahnenweiher and the Kurpark with the festival grounds at Freyung. Several stages are spread across the site, featuring live bands. Beer gardens and catering stands are run by local clubs — a festival by Schönsee residents for Schönsee residents and their guests. There is a dance floor with a DJ at the water wheel.
As darkness falls, the glittering lights begin: the lake and the spa park are festively illuminated, reflecting in the water. The highlight and conclusion of the evening is a grand fireworks display over the Hahnenweiher, crowning the festive atmosphere.
On the Saturday before the Seefest, the town invites visitors to a civic festival, making the Seefest a two-day festival weekend. The festival has a tradition of over 50 years and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the Upper Palatinate and neighboring Lower Bavaria year after year.
Schönsee is located in the so-called cultural borderland between Bavaria and Bohemia. The Centrum Bavaria Bohemia (CeBB) makes the town a cross-border meeting place. The Seefest is an expression of this vibrant club and festival culture in the Upper Palatinate Forest.
The Seefest 2026 is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Hahnenweiher and in the Schönsee Kurpark — traditionally the last Sunday in July. Several stages, live bands, beer gardens, and club catering will characterize the day, along with a dance floor with a DJ at the water wheel. As darkness falls, the festive glittering lights will begin, culminating in a grand fireworks display over the lake. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the town will host its civic festival.
