The Pier and its History
The Graal-Müritz pier is 350 meters long and majestically extends into the Baltic Sea. It was rebuilt in 1992 after over 50 years — the original pier, like many piers on the German Baltic coast, was destroyed in the 1940s. With its re-inauguration in 1992, the seaside resort regained its most important landmark, and since then, the community has annually celebrated the Seebrückenfest at the end of July / beginning of August to mark the anniversary of this rebirth.
Three Days of Beach and Atmosphere
The festival takes place on the pier forecourt — the large area at the beach access in front of the pier's entrance. For three days, this area transforms into a bustling festival mile with:
- Live Music: Several concerts per day, from cover bands to Schlager and Discofox, to singer-songwriter acts. The program alternates every half hour on two stages.
- Dancing: An open dance floor in the main stage area, often with a DJ in the evening.
- Colorful Stalls: Fish roll vendors, bratwurst stands, crêpes, ice cream, smoked fish from the Bodden lagoon, draft beer, wine, Aperol Spritz.
- Show Program: Walking acts, acrobats, stilt walkers, face painting for children, bouncy castle, craft activities.
- Family Zones: Sandcastle competition on the beach, children's program stage, interactive activities.
The Fireworks Display — Sunday Evening
The highlight of the festival is the grand fireworks display on Sunday. When the sun has set over the Baltic Sea and night falls on the beach, the multi-minute fireworks display begins from the beach and partly from the pier. The reflection of the lights on the sea makes the spectacle particularly impressive — thousands of visitors gather on the beach and promenade to watch.
Significance for Graal-Müritz
The Seebrückenfest is the most important summer event for the seaside resort and attracts visitors from the entire Rostock district, Berlin, Hamburg, and Brandenburg. Hotels and guesthouses are fully booked during this time. The event is organized by the Tourismus- und Kur GmbH Graal-Müritz in cooperation with local associations and businesses.
