About Schützenfest Elbingerode

The Schützenfest Elbingerode is the traditional summer event of the shooting club in the Elbingerode district of Hattorf am Harz and an important date in the event calendar of the Hattorf am Harz municipality. From Friday, June 26th to Sunday, June 28th, 2026, the Elbingerode sports field will be transformed into a festive backdrop with a festival tent, shooting range, catering, and stage program. Over three days of festivities, a classic Schützenfest program unfolds: a ceremonial opening evening on Friday, a grand festival Saturday with the king's shoot, a shooting mass, a parade, and a dance evening, as well as a family Sunday with a morning pint (Frühschoppen), children's program, and proclamation. With its community-based organization, its roots in the shooting traditions of the southern Harz region, and the family atmosphere of a village shooting festival, the event is a living example of the enduring North German Schützenfest culture.

Elbingerode — District of the Hattorf am Harz Municipality

Elbingerode is a district of the Hattorf am Harz municipality in the southern district of Göttingen. With its location on the southern edge of the Harz mountains and its village structure, the place maintains its own festival tradition, the most important pillar of which is the annual Schützenfest. The Elbingerode Shooting Club organizes the festival and, together with other local clubs, ensures its execution.

Three Days of Festivities Centered Around the King's Shoot

The 2026 Schützenfest spans three days: Friday, June 26th, Saturday, June 27th, and Sunday, June 28th. The king's shoot, where the titles of Shooting King and Junior/Children's King are contested, is at the heart of the event. This tradition dates back to the original function of shooting clubs as citizen militias and has remained a central act of club identity to this day.

Elbingerode Sports Field as the Festival Backdrop

The Elbingerode sports field serves as the central festival backdrop. The large festival tent is erected here, hosting the ceremonial acts, the banquet, and the dance evening. Outside the tent, there are catering stands, games, possibly a children's carousel, and the shooting range. The open location and ample space allow for a spacious festival operation.

Parade and Club Life

A traditional highlight of the Schützenfest is the parade, which leads the shooters, the shooting kings, the music bands, and the local clubs through the village. The marching past, salute shots, and tattoo (Zapfenstreich) are among the ceremonial rituals that characterize the Schützenfest. Friendly shooting clubs from the surrounding area participate in the parade, underscoring regional ties.

Family Program on Sunday

Sunday is traditionally dedicated to families. A morning pint (Frühschoppen), a children's program with children's dance, games, and possibly a children's king's shoot, as well as the proclamation of the new Shooting King and the new royal family, are the program highlights. The festival concludes convivially in the late afternoon.

Schützenfest Elbingerode — edition 2026

From June 26th to 28th, 2026, the Elbingerode Shooting Club once again invites you to the traditional Schützenfest at the sports field. Three days of festivities with an opening evening, king's shoot, shooting mass, parade, dance evening, morning pint (Frühschoppen), and family Sunday form the classic program. The proclamation of the new Shooting King on Sunday afternoon marks the ceremonial highlight.

Shooting Tradition in the Southern Harz

The 2026 edition continues the long-standing tradition. The Elbingerode sports field becomes the festival backdrop, and the Shooting Club welcomes friendly clubs, citizens, and guests from the Hattorf am Harz municipality and the surrounding area.
