Sun solstice festival in Schwedt city center with three stages, fire show, solstice bonfire, and fireworks
The Schwedt Midsummer Night has been the summer highlight of the city of Schwedt/Oder in the far northeast of Brandenburg since 2002. On June 19, 2026, the city center will open from 5 PM to 2 AM as a large festival grounds — the city administration distributes the program across three closely located venues: Alter Markt, Bollwerk on the harbor promenade, and Europäischer Hugenottenpark.
Bands, DJs, and walking acts alternate on the three stages. The program ranges from pop cover bands and acoustic sets to electronic dance music late at night. Between the stages, artistry, acrobatics, and fire performers provide the transition from the daytime atmosphere to the midsummer night. The separate children's and youth area offers hands-on activities, games, and workshops until the early evening.
Around 11 PM, the mythical part of the evening begins: A fire show with pyro-performance leads to the solstice bonfire — the traditional Solstitium fire that has been lit in the Uckermark for centuries on the summer solstice. The highlight is a fireworks display over the Oder River, which is also visible from the Polish side — from Krajnik Dolny.
Schwedt/Oder, with just under 30,000 inhabitants, is a medium-sized town in the Uckermark district, located on the border with Poland and on the edge of the Lower Oder Valley National Park. The city was heavily shaped by the GDR petroleum industry (PCK Raffinerie) but today presents itself as a gateway to the National Park and a cultural center of the region. With the Hugenottenpark, it commemorates the French religious refugees of the 17th century who established tobacco and textile industries here.
The Midsummer Night is free to attend. It caters to families — the early evening is tailored for children — as well as night owls. The entire city center will have restricted traffic, and catering stands from Schwedt and the surrounding area will serve visitors. The event is organized by the City of Schwedt/Oder, coordinated by the Department of Education, Youth, Culture, and Sport.
The Schwedt Midsummer Night 2026 takes place on Friday, June 19 — the date is two days before the astronomical summer solstice, traditionally the festival day in Schwedt, Uckermark. It starts at 5 PM, and the program runs continuously until 2 AM on Saturday morning.
Three stages will be used: Alter Markt (main stage with bands and headliner acts), Bollwerk on the Oder promenade (acoustic and singer-songwriter program), and Europäischer Hugenottenpark (dance floor and DJ sets in the late hours). Walking acts, stilt walkers, and artists will entertain on the paths between the three squares.
Around 11 PM, the fire show opens the mythical part of the evening. This is followed by the solstice bonfire and the fireworks display over the Oder. The children's and youth area runs until approx. 9 PM with interactive games and workshops.
