On the weekend of August 8 and 9, 2026, the Wanderfreunde Schwarzenbach e.V. club invites you to the annual Volkswandertag in the Hof district. You can start on Saturday between 08:00 and 12:00, and on Sunday from 06:00 to 11:00. Three routes are available: 5 km for families and those with limited mobility (accessible), 10 km, and 20 km for sporty hikers.
The routes lead through the hilly landscape of the Frankenwald around Schwarzenbach an der Saale. The start and finish point is the gymnasium of the primary school, Breslauer Straße 9, 95126 Schwarzenbach/Saale. On-site, the Wanderfreunde provide refreshments and the official IVV/DVV stamp distribution.

Hiking in the Frankenwald
Schwarzenbach an der Saale is located in the Hof district in the extreme northeast of Bavaria and is part of the Frankenwald Nature Park. The annual Volkswandertag organized by Wanderfreunde Schwarzenbach e.V. is a fixed date in the Upper Franconian hiking season calendar and is registered with the DVV (Deutscher Volkssportverband) as well as internationally with the IVV.
Three Routes, One Stamp
Hikers can choose between three distances: 5 km for families and leisurely walkers, 10 km as the standard route, and 20 km for ambitious amateur athletes. All routes follow marked paths through fields, forests, and small villages around Schwarzenbach. Holders of stamp booklets will receive the official IVV/DVV stamps for their hiking passes at the finish line.
Accessibility and Family Friendliness
The Volkswandertag is certified as accessible, and the 5 km route is also suitable for wheelchair users and families with strollers. At the start and finish area at the primary school gymnasium (Breslauer Straße 9), the Wanderfreunde provide refreshments, hot meals, and coffee.

Schwarzenbach an der Saale is accessible via the Bamberg–Hof railway line by regional express; Schwarzenbach/Saale station is only a few minutes' walk from the starting point. Hikers who wish to extend their weekend will find numerous excursion destinations in the Hof region, such as the Bavarian Vogtland, the Frankenwald, or the Fichtelgebirge.
